2007- A year of mixed kit for Indian sports
CRICKET:

  1. It was a disastrous start for the Indian cricket. With perhaps the last world cup for Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, there was a lot of hope on their shoulder. The hype even glorified more and more with many saying the team as the best ever cricket team- even better than the 1983 World Cup team which gave India the sole cricket world cup till now!
  2. Twenty20 World Champs
However, the most shocking news came, even more what happened in world cup, shocked the world community when Indian Team under the captainship of M S Dhoni- the Jharkhand lad, lifted the first ever Twenty-20 Cup in South Africa. It became all the more important as the 'Men in Blue' won the cup without the Big Threes (Sachin, Sourav, Dravid) who were opted out from the shortest version to make the way for the younger version.
  3. The year again gave India a hero. The 'Punjabi Munda' and the world cup team's vice-captain, Yuvraj Singh hit six sixes in an over against England clearing India's way for the T20 final.
  4. It was too an exciting year for the country's women cricket team. As the Men's Team still finding it hard to make it to the top, the hot spot went to the fastest Indian women in the World- Jhulan goswami, who won the ICC Women's Player of the Year 2007.

Viswanathan Anand
CHESS:

The Indian champion in true sense, Viswanathan Anand, made into the history books by garnering 2800 points in the FIDE Elo rating list. Anand became the undisputed World Chess Champion after winning the World Chess Championship Tournament held in Mexico.
