Talk about the world of entertainment and you cant help but link it to controversies. 2007 was no different. Infact, it saw more of these and would be remembered as the year of 'altercations and squabbles'. But, lets first concentrate on what constitutes Bollywood films and their performance. Bollywood saw surprise hits and shock misses. Movies which were expected to do good business at the box-office turned out a poor show while certain movies turned out to be surprise hits. Big budget films with a starry line-up flopped while multi-cast films with smaller budgets managed to rake in the moolah along with a slew of audience.

| King Khan - Still going strong |
However, the year saw some films which failed to deliver at the box office but received critical acclaim from both national and international quarters. The Namesake, Gandhi My Father, Black Friday, Parzania, 1971, Manorama Six Feet Under, Water, Johnny Gaddar, Dus Kahaniyaan are a few films which were highly appreciated but failed to do well in the commercial aspect.
There were other small budget films which did unexpectedly well at the box office despite the absence of big names. Life in a Metro, Traffic Signal, Bheja Fry, Himesh Reshammiya's debut venture Aap Ka Suroor, Dhamaal, Dhol, Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd being some of them.
An average performance by films such as Cheeni Kum, Apne, Goal, Aaja Nachle helped Bollywood save face at the box office.
Talking about super-hits, there were a few names who delivered hits at a consistent rate. The name topping the list is none other than Akshay Kumar. Akshay ruled the box office with three super hits - Namaste London, Heyy Babyy and Bhul Bhulaiyya. Next in line is King Khan with two hits Chak De India and Om Shanti Om. Abhishek Aishwarya starrer 'Guru' loosely based on the life of business tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani also did brisk business along with establishing screen chemistry between Aish and Abhishek. Other films which hit the bull's eye were Partner, Jab We Met and Shootout At Lokhandwala.
The year ended with another Akshay flick, Welcome and Aamir Khan's directorial debut Taare Zameen Par. While Welcome was an out an out comedy film, Taare... touched a more sensitive topic while Aamir's directorial skills garnered a lot of praise.
